Postgraduate students from Wales could be eligible for new £10,000 loan

[vc_row][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Students from Wales studying for Master’s Degrees could be eligible for a £10,280 loan for the 2017/18 academic year.

Loans will be available for Welsh students on full or part time courses based anywhere in the UK. It is hoped the support will be available to students beginning courses on or after 1st August 2017.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the move and said: “Nobody should be put off from undertaking postgraduate studies due to financial factors so I am pleased the Welsh Government is implementing this scheme.”

“I am regularly contacted by constituents who are keen to continue studying and this proposal should enable more people to access higher education and greatly improve their career prospects.”

The full and final details of the proposed loan will be made public when draft regulations are laid before the National Assembly in the spring.

The loan is likely to be an interim funding system for 2017/18 as a new loans and grants system is expected to be introduced from 2018 as part of the Welsh Government’s Diamond Review.
