Summer fayre to showcase Wrexham’s Victorian garden

An annual summer event will offer local residents the chance to discover one of Wrexham’s hidden treasures.

The Erlas Victorian Walled Garden is hosting its Summer Fayre this Saturday (15 June) from 1 – 4pm and Lesley Griffiths AM, who is a proud patron of the charity, is hoping people do not miss out on the opportunity to see the garden in all its glory.

In addition to exploring the beautiful garden, there will be craft stalls, plant sales, a tombola and raffle, and the Tenovus Choir present to help keep visitors entertained.

Refreshments are available and admission is £1 for adults, with children free of charge.

Lesley Griffiths AM will be attending the summer fayre and after recently visiting Erlas said: “The enthusiasm and hard work of the gardeners and volunteers at the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden has transformed this once derelict piece of land into a thriving community hub.”

“Over the years, it has been a pleasure to witness the on-going success of the project but the directors still have big plans for future development and I will continue to support them as best I can.  The summer fayre is the ideal opportunity for local residents to see the garden for themselves, with plenty of activities and events planned that the whole family can enjoy.”

Located on Bryn Estyn Road, the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden is a charitable organisation, led by a dedicated team of volunteers.  The innovative project provides specialised training and support for adults with learning and mental health disabilities in the Wrexham area, allowing individuals to develop their mental and physical capabilities, thus improving their quality of life.

By supporting people living with a disability, the organisation also promotes the conservation, protection and restoration of the Erlas walled garden, which is believed to date back to the early 1800s.
