Youth bus discount scheme extended to include 21-year-olds

Even more young people across Wales are now entitled to discounted bus travel and local Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths is hoping more people from Wrexham will take advantage of the scheme.

The Welsh Government’s MyTravelPass has been extended meaning all young people in Wales aged between 16 and 21 can claim a third off their fares for all bus journeys.

Originally set up in 2015, MyTravelPass was previously available to young people aged between 16 and 18 but its latest enhancement means people will be able to capitalise from the scheme right up until their 22nd birthday.

Figures reveal there are currently around 15,000 live passes in circulation and the Welsh Government estimates there were over £1.3m discounted journeys in 2017-18.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said: “Extending the MyTravelPass scheme will make a difference to even more young people’s lives, improving access to employment, education and training opportunities, as well as providing greater independence.”

“The scheme is a great example of the Welsh Labour Government supporting the younger generation.  It is completely free so I hope all eligible Wrexham residents visit the MyTravelPass website to apply for their pass.”
