AM Praises Local Pharmaceutical Firm

A Wrexham-based pharmaceutical company is moving from strength to strength after their substantial investment.

Last year, Wockhardt created up to 50 new jobs by building a sterile manufacturing and testing facility at its site at the Wrexham Industrial Estate.

Local AM, Lesley Griffiths, recently visited the company to meet with Managing Director, Sirjiwan Singh, and hear more about the £10m investment.

The company specialises in the manufacture and supply of generic medicines, and has a growing portfolio of over 350 products.  It currently employs approximately 400 people, with the Wrexham operations being the UK headquarters and European hub of the Wockhardt Group.

Wockhardt UK came into existence in 2004 but the Wrexham facility has been established for over 60 years.  The company are embedded within the local community, sponsoring events such as last year’s switch on of the Christmas Lights in Wrexham town centre.

After her visit, Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, said:

“Wockhardt is an excellent local company who firmly believe people are the mainstay of the organisation.  It supports the local community, investing in the area and its employees.”

“It was good to discuss future plans as well as some of the latest Welsh Government initiatives for Wrexham, such as the North East Wales Metro and Development Bank.  One of the Welsh Government’s key priorities is to support businesses and improve the regional economy, and I will do all I can to support Wockhardt moving forward.”
