Flying Start projects receive Welsh Government funding boost

Disadvantaged children, families and communities in Wrexham are set to benefit from additional Welsh Labour Government funding.

Around £440,000 has been awarded to various projects in Wrexham in total and local Member of the Senedd, Lesley Griffiths, has welcomed the latest announcement.

She said: “Every child, no matter what their background, deserves the best possible start in life and Flying Start creates opportunities for children and their families that otherwise would not have been available.”

“Hundreds of local children benefit from the programme and this additional funding will help ensure local facilities are in the best possible condition.”

Flying Start is the Welsh Government’s flagship early years programme and the latest funding is aimed at replacing, repairing and improving facilities, helping create the best possible environment for children to learn and play.

Overall, 70 Flying Start projects throughout Wales will share over £5.2 million.

In Wrexham, over a quarter of a million pounds will be spent improving facilities in Llay.  Other local projects benefiting include the Hafod y Wern office and the Venture in Caia Park, Ti Ni Family Centre in Rhosddu and Cherry Hill in Borras.

Flying Start is child-focused and supports parents and carers to help create the most positive environment for their children’s wellbeing.  The programme offers twelve and a half hours of high quality childcare a week for 2-3 year olds; support for the development of children’s speech, language and communication; parenting support; and an enhanced health visitor service.
