Walking festival to explore region’s natural beauty spots

With summer fast approaching, a voluntary group of ramblers are encouraging people to venture outdoors and enjoy the region’s scenic landscape during its annual walking festival.

The 2023 Wrexham Walking Festival, which takes place from Saturday 3rd June through to Sunday 11th June, invites people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a series of free walks exploring the splendour and history of North East Wales.

Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd, Lesley Griffiths, who is a long-time supporter of the festival, has teamed up once again with organisers Walkabout Wrexham & District and will be taking part in this year’s event.

She said: “From Holt to the Horseshoe Pass, the Wrexham Walking Festival not only promotes our region’s picturesque surroundings, it also encourages people to live healthier lifestyles.

“Walking is a simple, stress-free workout and everyone is welcome to take part in this year’s event, which in the past has attracted walkers from across the UK to visit North East Wales.”

During the festival, walks take place daily and are graded depending on difficulty.  Harder walks are at least 6 miles in length and will cross rough ground so walkers require a good level of fitness.  But there are also shorter less strenuous walks so there is something to suit everyone.

All walks are free of charge and are led by trained leaders.  Participants are reminded to wear suitable clothing and boots.  There is no need to book or reserve a place – just turn up on the day at the appropriate meeting place.
