Welsh Government Helping Showcase Welsh Businesses to the World

Two Wrexham-based businesses with major international success will be flying the flag for North Wales when they take part in a Welsh Government trade mission to China and Hong Kong later this month.

Although the companies specialise in very different fields, Air Covers and Silverlining both moved to the Wrexham Industrial Estate from neighbouring English counties and have seen their respective businesses move from strength to strength.

The Welsh Labour Government initiates a number of exhibition or trade show events across the globe throughout the year and Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, has praised its dynamic approach, as well as the local businesses taking part in the latest mission.

Air Covers is a world-leading manufacturer of protective covers for aircraft and currently employs nine full-time designers and machinists.  Helicopters are vulnerable to environmental damage from sand, ice, humidity and heat and the company has developed products to protect against these hazards.

Silverlining, which specialise in producing some of the world’s finest furniture and bespoke interiors, is looking at doubling its workforce over the next five years from 70 to 130 people.  Designing, delivering and fitting bespoke ultra-luxury interiors has delivered great success and as result, the unique company is now considering setting up its own Academy to train its future workforce.

Both companies heavily rely on international trade and have previously attended a number of trade exhibitions with Welsh Government support.  Air Covers’ suppliers include the Royal Swedish Air Force, the German Bundeswehr and Omani and UAE Air Forces, exporting over 80 percent of its products.  For Silverlining, their export figure is even higher at 98 percent.
